For someone who used to tease his brother about a career in graphic design, I sure do waste a lot of time making pictures in ggplot and semPlot to not get paid for it.

The problem with semPlot is that spacing fucks up because it's programmed to use space with maximum efficiency. "Semptools" does a good job rectifying that somewhat but I could imagine a spatial optimization algorithm could do wonders here (semPlot graphics use 2d matrices as spatial maps).

I quickly made a branch that just has the OpenMx dependency removed here: github.com/SachaEpskamp.... I think it can be installed with devtools::install_github("sachaepskamp/semPlot", ref = "semPlot-without-OpenMx"). Does this work?

I highly recommend the semPlot package for getting a quick look at your model, and for making the figure look like a spaceship while you're at it...
