So, who wins, and for that matter, what defines intelligence?

Is intelligence itself ableist? I would argue yes, as would others in the self-advocacy community.

Never mind the fact that parents of autistic ppl (it's not a side dish; it's not removable) don't truly know what their kids are dealing with unless they're autistic themselves.

There are many nonverbal autistics who can communicate their needs just fine (Ido Kedar & Amy Sequenzia, for example).

As such, neurodiversity explicitly includes all autistic and neurodivergent people, including those with the highest support needs. Indeed, their voices are some of the most influential within the neurodiversity movement (e.g., Sequenzia, 2012),

i got a message on tumblr asserting that amy sequenzia was fraudulently being manipulated by her carer and thus can't be credited for her contributions to autistic advocacy. this kind of conspiracy theorizing about prominent nonverbal autistic people is so irritating. 🧵

Honoring "those parents & caregivers who are not only real allies but our lifelines. […] Some people will say this is only what parenting should be—love & accept your children. That’s what parenting should be, but it doesn’t mean that it is easy." Amy Sequenzia at Autistic Women & Nonbinary Network:

#Autism Please stop using low- and high-functioning for autism. Functioning labes harm Autistics and they are outdated, not to mention that insurance companies take advantage of them to deny much-needed services.

I was instead countered with examples like Carly Fleischmann, Amy Sequenzia, and Tito Mukhopadhyay, and all the examples turned out to be hoaxes: drive.google.com/file/d/1Hbio...
