A less well populated trap last night in the cool evening featuring little of note. There was a single lovely Ruby Tiger, all smart and fresh.

@mothiduk.bsky.social is it possible to say whether this Coleophora is serratella please? Thanks.

I’m fairly happy with this as Coleophora serratella (Common Case-bearer) on Birch at Cavenham. If so, it’s new for me.

Another highlight of this week’s Hampshire trip was cases of the rare Coleophora vibicella (Large Gold Case-bearer) on Dyer’s Greenweed. At 2cm long they are the largest Coleophora cases in the UK, 3x the size of C. serratella cases. #teammoth

A couple of hours out pre-work added three to the year list (now on 86).
Pebble Hook-tip & Eriocrania sangii were nice and photogenic, Adela reaumurella much less so.
The inevitable Coleophora serratella cases also seen.

3 coleophora on Birch this evening. The first two pretty sure are serratella, but the last one is coming back as milvipennis? serratella, I guess more likely, but does look different ? Anyone with experience of milvipennis wha could help? #teammoth

Work today was brightened by a Sedge Warbler in full song from a tiny patch of manicured bushes outside an adjacent warehouse, a Chocolate-tip, an Eriocrania sangii mine and some Coleophora mines on Hornbeam (no case found though the smart money has to be on serratella). #teammoth

A brief window of opportunity allowed me to get the annual Emperor fix. Never sat still, but this is by far the best pic I've ever got of one. May get a whole one in focus one day!
Also my first (seven) Coleophora serratella cases of the year.

Found a couple of leaf mines on our morning walk in the forest over the road from us in Mundford VC28 this morning. Both on Birch saplings, I think they are Stigmella betulicola (though seems early to be mining?) and Coleophora serratella? @vc28wildlife.bsky.social #teammoth #norfolkmoths

Had a couple of hours poking around birches this morning.
In pic order: lots of Coleophora serratella cases and signs; Incurvaria pectinea mines only found once; Eriocrania unimaculella q common; E. sangii less so. Also a single E. semipurpurella found.
Boosts the Hants year list to 139 .
