I am always going to bat that the Sherman was objectively a better tank for the purposes of war than its opponents, because reliability, serviceability, and affordability were what mattered most. The greatest tank ever from an engineering perspective doesn’t mean shit if it’s stuck in a ditch!

I think this is a misunderstanding built upon a kernel of truth that (for example) some late-war German armor outmatched most Allied armor in certain Top Trumps-style categories BUT THIS DID NOT MATTER because in *other* qualitative respects (eg serviceability) Allied armor was still superior.

Some countries operating the F-35 are reporting 30% serviceability. Its ridiculous.

An underrated outcome of the strikes is their effect on the additional future wear and tear on the surviving bombers.
Unless operations are dialled down, more maintenance will be needed for the increasingly tired fleet, which will impact its overall serviceability.

I mean, I don't think latency was ever the white whale there, it was serviceability and heat dissipation, both of which continue to be basically unsolved.

Shit's too expensive and they need to stop putting functions that should be buttons and knobs behind touchscreens, and design for better serviceability, cars are just so much better nowadays.

Sounds about right; I used to drive & maintain vintage Land Rovers for fun - and they stated having engine management systems even in the utility vehicles in the 1980s.
(Still a fondness for the field-serviceability of all those pre-computer vehicles; only as a hobby though, not for daily driving!)

You need to be careful with a "defer to technocrats" argument, but "residential home mortgage serviceability ratios" seems like a thing that you absolutely don't want a Minister having a random crack at setting.

There were two A-50 AWACS shot down in early 2024 if I recall correctly, over or near the sea of Azov, add these two and the A-50 fleet might well be struggling to remain operational depending on serviceability and crew availability. 1/

Hell, you could probably get the same area as this thing by building an array on the roof of a train station. Throw in any signal tower & catenary substation roofs and that’d blow it out of the water in terms of serviceability.

When HTS rebels took Aleppo and it's airport they would have also gained control of "the Factory" a maintenance facility for the Syrian Air Force where a freshly repainted L-39ZA is seen below. This may have an effect on serviceability of the Syrian Air Force.

Warhammer Fantasy is such a great system for pulling crap like this. We once drugged up a bunch of chickens to knock out a giant spider, in order to get past it.

Basically, the tractor is the better technology in the long run. I have serious doubts about the long-term serviceability of the power-hog, water-hog polluting data centers.
