here's my rant if anyone cares [spoilers] tldr i thought the acting was really good but the ending was stupid and incomprehensible
Mmmmk so the main thing that's different from the book is that Carrie's mom actually loves her and isn't weird Christian extremist about it? She's like, an alex jones conspiracy type. It is, although in the context of tbh a good but fairly lazy Steven King novel her mom was kinda just setdressing? Like trying to cram as much trauma on top of her at once so that the explosion was inevitable. And I'm only on episode 4/8 and her mom is already like "oooh the mean kids are so mean to my awful daughter, we're gonna make them pay, Carrie" so I'm curious how that thread will play out Also the last two episodes have been going pretty explicit on the "many women throughout history have had telekinesis like Carrie" which was implied but not gone into hmmmmmmmm now Carrie and the MYSTERIOUS TRANSFER STUDENT WHO CARRIE'S THE ONLY PERSON SHE EVER TALKS TO OR ACKNOWLEDGES HER PRESENCE (curious, sure it's just a coincidence) are having an 11 strangerthings training montage, don't like that, the whole point of the book is that it wasn't premeditated or predictable. ok it has three episodes before the finale to change my mind but i'm thinking it should have been a 4 episode miniseries Gasp who could have seen this coming the mystery friend wasn't really there (/she was definitely psychically projecting in from elsewhere because the show is too much of a coward to have an actually deeply schizophrenic mc) hmmmm yeah they kinda pivoted from Carrie to Mean Girls for a bit there, also her not-there-psychic-projection friend might actually be the devil, she keeps trying to get carrie to hurt and potentially kill people. but also they just floated the concept that people have light and dark halves that they have to keep in balance (this is suggested by her mom as an alternative to the concept of mental health) so i'm gonna be really annoyed and disappointed if imaginary friend is her dark side -_- tbh gonna also be annoyed if it's sam l jackson inviting her to join the avengers- ...tbh gonna also be annoyed if it's sam l jackson inviting her to join the avengers initiative, or brain nazis that want to rule the non-superpowered humans, or hmmmm ok going into the last episode, they've set up this clash at prom between the telekenetic girls trying to protect carrie (I think, not like they explained anything actually lol) and the mom of Carrie's imaginary psychic friend, who's trying to kill carrie. And then they end the penultimate ep on her getting the blood poured on her, cut to black, screams. but like. ok the problem is, they've cast an actress who's adorable and written her so she's literally the nicest girl in the world, and it's just not believable that she would telekenetically murder everyone. If they'd put this episode after episode 4, where she's at her nadir, maybe, but they wrapped up that storyline with the whole mean girls arc. Which is why, actually, having her be genuinely mentally unwell and unstable would have been a stronger choice. Or, as I *think* happens in the book, have her be like, already having a bit of a meltdown, telekenetically lock her mom in a closet, and then go to prom the same night, where her night gets even worse. But no, the locking her mom in a closet scene happened an episode and a half ago, and the past episode everything has been going really well for her like, idk maybe i'm built different [low self worth! and really depressed through HS!] but i feel like i could handle the situation they've depicted and not murder anyone? From her PoV, the night has gone: - invited to prom by close platonic friend - had a really nice night dancing with him - the Mean Girl even had a moment with me, and said genuinely that I looked nice and she was glad I was here - surprise named prom queen, after the principal literally says on stage "you [the student body] chose right [she deserves this]" - pig blood poured on head - shocked silence - some people start laughing - this is a reference to that time i had a really shitty day because i got my period and didn't know what was happening, and a video went viral, but that was literally an entire semester ago and also the girl who caused that got expelled about it I'M SORRY, THAT'S JUST A WEIRD, MODERATELY SHITTY WEEKEND, NOT THE STRAW THAT BREAKS THE CAMEL'S BACK TO MURDER EVERYONE OK STUPID ENDING so it was ALL OF THE ABOVE is the thing ok so in the book, Carrie kills everyone in the high school, then walks home covered in blood, then her mom stabs her and she dies in the show OOF OK ok THERE'S TWO FACTIONS OF SUPERPOWERED PEOPLE and one group is doing the interviews of the survivors that are the framing device of the show, and uses suggestibility to kill Carrie's mom who also has a little bit of superpowers btw turns out the other group is Carrie's imaginary friend (emmaline) and ????????maybe others?????? surprising no one, emmaline has been astral projecting to carrie this entire show, but shows up in person to exfil her from her burning town and destroyed house, and drive her to the unknown world ahead, with vague comments of "you're a god" and "it's your world, where do you want to go?" BUT THE REALLY STUPID PART is that emmaline is maybe ALSO the debil??? like the massacre at the high school IT TURNS OUT IT WASN'T CARRIE, SHE LET EMMALINE POSSESS HER AND EMMALINE DID ALL THE MURDERS BECAUSE CARRIE IS A SWEET CINNAMON ROLL TOO GOOD FOR THIS WORLD TOO PURE which is fine, if you want to tell that story and make it a big obvious sequel hook for season 2 but like. THAT'S NOT THE STORY and i'm not really a carrie purist, I was actually fine with the changes for the most part but this just feels lazy

yeah I'm mostly interested in making backgrounds, setdressing I can look around and angle for references... and eventually maybe learn how to make low poly models. But mostly the former. I used to love Sketchup but Google made sure to make it unusable and inaccessible.

genuinely why does everyone think turkey is an islamic nation ? its as islamic as america is christian , in that there exists a cultural setdressing but no real meaningful attachment to the actual religion . hell , turkey legally enforces secular policy more than the atheists favored secular nation

the last season of game of thrones is an incredible artefact because it literally turns into a marvel movie. it's suddenly primarily about having iconic heroes talk to each other while everyone who isn't a notable kinda shuffles around like amorphous setdressing, when they remember they exist at all

the obvious issue is these people caring about mario as a Collective Consistent Narrative it will never be vs a collection of setdressing pieces that usually retain logic across performances but are pretty flexible and can randomly be changed to suit a new need
