This #macOS backdoor uses /usr/bin/SetFile to hide itself in the Finder. SetFile was deprecated in Xcode 6 (that's 2014 to humans)...not sure why it makes sense to declare smth 'deprecated' then leave it in the OS for 10+ years. 🤷‍♂️ #apple #malware

@samhenrigold Custom iron is a Carbon-era filesystem flag. GetFileInfo and SetFile (if you have developer tools installed) will let you toggle it on a stock macOS install directly if you don't go the route of pasting in a custom icon / using APIs to configure a file's icon

Public service announcement: if you need to rescue a Time Machine backup that has turned into a greyed out Backups.backupdb for - say - an elderly relative:

1) sudo chgrp admin Backups.backupdb.

and

2) SetFile -d "$(date)" *name_of_folder* (you need the XCode command line tools)

should do it.
