Congress in 6 months holding hearings into all the SGEs the Pentagon has been hiring

Right now, Elon Musk and other Special Government Employees (SGEs) with significant conflicts of interest are working the system.

We demand reform. That’s why @warren.senate.gov and I introduced the SGE Ethics Enforcement & Reform Act to ensure SGEs are subject to oversight and accountability ⬇️

Thanks so much Elon for the wonderful meeting member of the Special Government Employees (SGEs) team, supporting Elon Musk and initiatives related to DOGE % #elonmusk

I invite lawyers to comment on the part of the TRO that requires SGEs to destroy copies they've already made of info they've accessed. The SGEs aren't parties to the suit, unless they're encompassed in "President Trump" ...

This is broader than the “consent order” entered Thurs. by Judge Kollar-Kotelly in DC. Latter allowed 2 DOGE “special govt employees” (SGEs) to keep working but not send data out of Treas. This one bars access to SGEs & orders them to destroy anything already copied ...

I must yet again remind everybody that the time limits for SGEs are not real! The law allows the utmost flexibility. Musk could have remained an SGE indefinitely.
Give me a break, Musk is not leaving because his scheduled time is up

The litigation held him accountable, & for that & other reasons he became politically unpopular & a liability

He lost. Democracy won. Only one round of the fight but a biggie!

Elon Musk's actions are illegal

Special government employees, or SGEs, are typically hired on a temporary basis as experts or consultants or serve as members of federal advisory committees.
Trump hired Musk as a 'special government employee.' Here's what that means

what else are you gonna use SGEs for

Just happen to have the conflict of interest rules for Special Govt Employees (SGEs) handy. In brief: SGEs may not participate in any govt matter w/a direct & predictable effect on their financial interests. 18 U.S.C. 208. Even if the SGE is unpaid? Yup, even if unpaid. @nycsouthpaw.bsky.social
The plan is for a cohort of unpaid, unofficial volunteers to live within federal agencies for six months, working 80 hours per week on undefined tasks, conspire with one another on Signal, and get nearly everyone around them fired. It doesn’t sound fully baked to me. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/12/u...

The SEER Act would strengthen transparency and ethics requirements for Special Government Employees. This will help ensure that the work of SGEs serves the American people, and not personal financial interests.

We commend @warren.senate.gov leadership on this.

SGEs have no decision-making authority. The press should ask what decisions they have made. bsky.app/profile/cost...
Question for press to ask: is he a Special Government Employee (SGE)? If so, he can’t fire anybody. Or supervise anyone or direct any policy decisions.
“…in one incident, Lewandowski fired a U.S. Coast Guard pilot after Noem's blanket was left behind on a plane, according to people familiar with the incident.”

SGEs have federal ethics obligations and have to file financial disclosure. Did Elon do any of this? Who is tracking his work to make sure he complies with ethics issues?
Elon Musk is officially serving as a special government employee, according to a White House official. Per a DOJ summary, a special government employee is "anyone who works, or is expected to work, for the government for 130 days or less in a 365-day period." Musk is not being paid, I am told.

ICYMI: Trump’s AI and crypto czar, David Sacks, is using his role as a Special Government Employee to line his pockets.

Earlier this year, @warren.senate.gov and I introduced the SGE Ethics Enforcement & Reform Act, which would expand & strengthen ethics and conflict of interest rules for all SGEs.

sges so damn fine

I'm pretty sure none of these restrictions have been applied to the person claimed to be an SGE:
What are the restrictions on SGEs?
-SGEs are subject to conflict of interest laws
-SGEs cannot participate in matters that could affect a company they work for

-SGEs cannot use their role to influence elections or engage in political activity
-SGEs must submit a statement of employment and financial interests before starting work
February 4, 2025 at 3:13 AM
Anyone have a good explainer re: Special Governmental Employees (SGEs) in the White House? My memory is that there were pretty extreme limits about what SGEs can and can't do (by law).

I ask because it seems that Musk, Ramaswany & Sacks may all be SGEs.
December 6, 2024 at 3:09 PM
And SGEs have no supervision authority and no decision making authority, and yet he was reportedly acting as a Cabinet Agency Chief of Staff.
Reminder that Lewandowski was a Special Government Employee with a zero dollar contract. Because he saw govt as a graft opportunity for much bigger bucks
