I've read that that's just what they (can) do at dealer repair shops. They (can) keep a spare. Trouble is, those little boxes can cost near a grand each, so the shadetree mechanic is stuck on this point. I finally found a used one on ebay. But, even that went bad after a few years.

That said, if all AI development stopped today, we still have a chunk of useful tech for software engineering, audio transcripting, shadetree translation, image recognition, weaponized drones, etc. And the dangers of slop content production for marketing, grifting, politics, etc.

yeah to be fair this car has had like 9 engines in it, been beat to shit and back hundreds, if not thousands, of times, been ripped apart and repaired in so many different shadetree and professional ways, it's a miracle it even lasted this long

I am a decent shadetree mechanic, but over the years i have slowed down a bit. I see videos on youtube saying this should only take x amount of time. I giggle. I do usually go the extra mile and deep clean etc

At its foundation, even with a certain amount of gussy-ing, Jeep is still a shadetree mechanic's workhorse. OF COURSE they put a real key in the keyfob. Jeep also recommends that the owner keep a spare keyfob battery in the glovebox. Old school.
