Maybe! I randomly saw recently that a BDSM Shintoho movie I watched went to Hong Kong - and did well at its box office from a Facebook listing of that year. I feel like there must be so much history there we don’t know.

Jigoku, circa 1960 from Shintoho, is what I would consider a very early J-Horror film, and is something I've held close to my heart since my teen years.
Be warned, it's VERY nihilistic and surprisingly gruesome for its time.
