Games are more complex now and harder to make, we used to have real high standards for what got allowed to a disc. It had to be playable start to finish for 99.99% of players without the internet+patching. Its a worthwhile goal to aspire to, go blame bad project management if you miss your shipdate

in march ‘01, nearing graduation and the deadline for getting kicked out, i enlisted in the army with a planned shipdate in nov

between march and nov *something* happened, and i got a 48hr notice (received a half day late) to report in late sept

3/You document those rules as best you can, but with hundreds of interactions, you'll never get them all. In a nutshell, tho, that's what makes software useful. My users don't have to update the ShipDate bc the software does it for them. Multiply that time savings by 50 users and now you're talking.

2/Fellow #developers, if you're like me, development often feels like a neverending round of the "What did I forget?" game we all play when leaving for vacation. In the middle of testing a function, I'll suddenly remember - "aw crap, the ShipDate field has to be updated there when we save here", &c.
