I've just published a new article about Shogatsu, the New Year in Japan. I've included a selection of traditions for both before and during the new year celebrations, plenty of art, and even a couple of #yokai. I hope you enjoy it. 🎍

Japanese New Year traditions include a thorough cleaning of the home, putting up decorations, eating soba noodles, visiting a shrine, and taking note of your first dream. I've written all about it here, with lots of #JapaneseArt too. Happy New Year! 🎍

The 20th day of the New Year, a day of purification and relaxation before the year begins in earnest, goes by many names (such as 'Beggars New Year' 乞食正月 in Ishikawa). In Kansai it's called 'Hone Shōgatsu' (骨正月 'Bone New Year') and 'Atama Shōgatsu' (頭正月 'Head New Year').

Knowing a little of every language you've studied is a strange experience. My mind reaches for the readily available word instead of the one that logically goes next to it.
Anyway, Shogatsu Sameach.

SHOGATSU - Untitled Project
I didn’t post any actual New Year’s photos! Probably because I totally forgot I took any. 😅 Here’s Ranma Bunny, wishing everyone a Happy New Year, or Shogatsu as it’s called in Japan. Shogatsu is Japan’s most important festival, continuing until Lunar New Year.

Happy Belated Lunar New Year! What better way to celebrate Shogatsu (the closest I can get to LNY in Japan) than to have my Fallout Gecko Godzilla don his rosary kimono, eat an endless bowl of Soba, and greet the cosmos with his bigness!~
