#shopvac
(JoCo dropping this in a song about suburban life and then immediately going back to happily singing about his ShopVac is incredibly me-coded)

Now that I've tricked several of you into caring about my forge project, I'm going to make you wait before I work on it.

Lining chests with grippy mat to give the tools a fighting chance in transit + cleaned the outer shopvac filter that had gotten wet and turned into a mud patty.

That's EXACTLY why I use my little 2 gallon shopvac around the bench! Foam and fiber filter keep any little stuff from going anywhere but in the canister. Then dump it out on a big cookie sheet and sort through the debris! Amazing what you can find!

Dawson’s really good at these gigantic black spiders that occasionally find their way inside the door. All of a sudden I'll see her stealthy head toward the stairs and down she goes. I don't know how she knows they're there? Next day I'm pulling the ShopVac up to the garage door and cleaning 'em up.

and shopvac the vents

Fond memories of one of the supervisors using a shopvac on pop that burst in the back at penhorn theatres, the inside of the shopvac was shredded

Thancred....you know better!

/goes to get the broom....no, wait...wet-dry shopvac....

the organization bit is a work in progress 😂 first photo is a kallax (with lots of inserts and shelves for smaller things), second photo is my pride and joy, repurposed type cases from my grandfather’s old print shop. still working on cleaning up the cases and transferring stuff over there

now there's a strategic element too you're challenging a play tell the kid to sweep slow your opponent is challenging shopvac

$20 for 3 hours of work every Saturday morning at a lighting warehouse cutting up cardboard boxes and smashing light bulbs on the floor, which I sucked up with a giant shopvac. I didn’t ask a lot of questions, I was high most of the time and I don’t think any of this was approved by OSHA.
Happy labor day (USA). What's one of the oddest paid job you've had? Mine was probably as a reader for a medical professor at Rutgers, whose eyes were failing. I read him many academic texts, as well as Samuel Butler's "The Way of All Flesh."

Then it's fine. All of the cement/hard floor attachment stuff is a lot less effective on carpet. I got a refurbished Dyson for the house and a wet/shopvac for flooding and my garage and it works out.

I've never seen a shopvac in someone's house in my entire life.
September 5, 2026 at 12:15 AM
Kind of. The lack of brushes will make it less effective on carpet. If you have mostly hard floors though a shopvac is fine.

I guess if you regularly need a shopvac specifically, its not particularly weird
September 5, 2026 at 12:00 AM
If you're using the shopvac in place of a regular vacuum, I'd consider that a little quirky but perfectly rational.
September 4, 2026 at 11:57 PM
That’s normal, I mostly vacuum with just a shopvac, so I wouldn’t look twice if someone didn’t have a normal one.
September 4, 2026 at 11:53 PM
I need to crowdsource an answer: is it weird I don't own a normal vacuum, only a shopvac
September 4, 2026 at 11:52 PM
More like it slurped back up the hose and into the shopvac. More of a vampire situation.
September 4, 2026 at 3:56 AM
If anyone is looking for alternatives to desecration of your household vacuum, a wee shopvac is like $35 and handles a multitude of sins. (This lesson was learned in a situation of some urgency this spring, and I was shocked at how affordable it was.)

Feeling like a badass. Had my Heatpump, which we use as AC in summer dump about two cups of water all over my floor. Did some panicking and then on my lunch, I ran down to get my shopvac and used it to suck clogs out of drain hose. Then flushed drain hose. Repair, call would be 500 easy.

And you know, sometimes you have a day that ends with you saying "I'm just going to leave the shopvac in the bathroom, no reason to put it away until this is over"
August 28, 2026 at 2:10 AM
I never managed to do any fundraising or get around to working on that or eat dinner today...

But I did wash all the bedding, empty the shopvac, vacuum the tent, spray for lice, and take a shower.

Tips for a tired toolsmith?

Brb finding who I am and doing that on purpose.

I'm a normal-looking girl who's not winning any beauty contests but I'm not torture to look at and I'm sucking up information like a shopvac to be useful but also because it's fun. And I guess the greys are coming in but whatever, silver fox mode.
August 26, 2026 at 12:07 AM
No need to use a shopvac, I'll suck it!

#softcocksaturday basement laundry edition 😋
Ignore the tilt, my phone was propped on a shopvac lol
