i think in the future we get better at low poly retopo with the subdiv/shrinkwrap modifier to finish i kinda applied them early cause i was freaking out and wasnt trusting the process (first time...) so ive been editing the higher poly result

Great tip! Might be worth adding that to visualise the result of the shrinkwrap modifier on the topology whilst in edit mode, toggle the 'on cage' visibility of the modifier to ON. It took me a while to realise why I couldn't see the change in the viewport. ;)

definitely! and while we're here, allow me to specifically note that he's one of the few artists who doesn't shrinkwrap maiasaura! for an animal with a bowl on its head, you'd think more artists would clock that there was most likely some soft tissue there... goes to show how rigorous his work is!

Oh, Lattice deform, that's a new one for me! Every guide I read for YAB/Rue starts with a cleanup and then shrinkwrap...wonder if a lattice would make sculpting around breasts and tummies easier too 🤔
But that makes sense re: where things break. That's also a common area with fem bodies too

unfortunately.. the last two times i tried to put a plugin in blender it crashed so badly i had to wipe every memory of blender from my pc and start over so im afraid of trying again................. OTL i also.. should learn how shrinkwrap works at some point............................

i prefer the proximity snap plugin because i can go into the sculpting tab and the mesh doesnt get all fucky like it does after applying a shrinkwrap modifier

For example--I got a roll of vet tape for emergency bandages. It came with the tiny 3M shrinkwrap around it, but would bet .25 it was once part of a bigger box.
