One of my best.
But hard won.

Forgot key painting supplies. Wind blew the ptg face down into my palette. Good outcome anyway!

Hanging Canyon
oil on board
10” x 24”
A high key painting of a hanging cliff. The painting is on a ground of magenta and purple, which makes it necessary to saturate the colors, to push off, contrast, the ground. this makes the colors more lively. You can see mineral spirit drips in the violet sky. There is a bright yellow stroke in the center foreground which plays off of the larger, violet cliff shape. The sky on the horizon has a greenish yellow cast. The strokes are thick. The purple ground peaks through on the left, far right and bottom left.
