There's just something about a lone corvid perched on top of a dead tree at dusk .........
Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #FrightfulFeathers - eerie, mysterious or spooky birds.
#Birds #Corvids #Crow #Nature #Wildlife #Birding #BirdWatching #BirdPhotography
A lone corvid (assumed to be a crow) perches on the top branch of a dead tree. The branches of the tree are bare, gnarled, and twisted. The crow is in silhoutte, facing to the right with head turned back over its shoulder looking left. It is dusk and the light is fading - a grey sky provides the backdrop for the stark, black subject of the bird and tree.

Night. A beautiful but frightened woman is seen looking behind her in mid run down what looks like an alley. Her silhoutte looks on the wall to the left of her. She narrates, "Looking back on that sentiment now, all I can do is LAUGH."

Some more fun facts! If you look closely at the train station, you might see a silhoutte of the dragon. Close to the dragon statue (which is actually a fountain) is a bakery, bearing the dragon as its logo, selling Bossche bollen: chocolatey calorie bombs filled with whipped cream goodness!

I'll grant that the double exposure special effects in #Körkarlen are impressive for its time but other than that #ThePhantomCarriage suffers from the same problems as a lot of silent movies do for me. Classic of silent film and 🇸🇪 cinema it may be but also too long and too slow in its pacing. 📽️🎞️
Poster for the Swedish silent film 'Körkarlen' (1921). Originally released in the English speaking world as 'Thy Soul Shall Bear Witness!' in the UK and 'The Stroke of Midnight' in the US. Now known as 'The Phantom Carriage'. Based on the the 1912 novel of the same name by Selma Lagerlöf. Directed by Victor Sjöström. Starring Victor Sjöström, Hilda Borgström, Tore Svennberg, Astrid Holm, Concordia Selander and Lisa Lundholm. On top of the black and yellow poster a silhoutte of a horse drawn covered carriage driven by the Grim Reaper traveling (from right to left) in the woods. In the middle of the poster the text "Selma Lagerlöfs Körkarlen berättad i levande bilder av Victor Sjöström" (literal translation "Selma Lagerlöf's The Wagoner told in moving pictures by Victor Sjöström") in yellow letters. Blue tinted black and white frame from the Swedish silent film 'Körkarlen' (1921). Two ghosts facing each other sitting in a graveyard on a stone slab covering a grave with a dead body lying face down on it. On the left a moustached middle-aged man (Victor Sjöström as David Holm) and on the right a goateed Grim Reaper (Tore Svennberg as Georges) holding a scythe. Blue tinted black and white frame from the Swedish silent film 'Körkarlen' (1921). On the foreground a woman (Astrid Holm as Edit) wearing a white nightgown sitting in a bed. She's pleading with a goateed Grim Reaper (Tore Svennberg as Georges) wearing a hooded robe and holding a scythe in his left hand standing next to the bed in the dying woman's bedroom.

Incredible film. Weird, sad, funny, musical, brooding, and primal.

Will likely add some more words closer to release date as this film touched on more than a few parts of my heart!

Rework of the halo and antennas on the little corner sketch, larger halo that fits around the antennas which act as a conductor and stabilizer

I might make the halo bigger, a little thicker, and give it a more pronounced silhoutte ..?

One small reason why I keep my FB account is for the daily memory reminders.
10 yrs ago, I was in Rockport, Texas, on vacation and it was a wonderful trip. Here are a few highlights of it:
"My adventure of the morning (other than getting up at 6:30 for the sunrise) is realizing that the empty shells gathered yesterday, carried in my pockets until late night & left on the dresser were, in fact, not empty at all. I'm currently chasing down multiple hermit crabs that are roaming throughout the room & re-homing them outdoors. How's your Saturday going? Sigh..." "Aaannddd.. We are six for six. The last one just woke up & walked off the dresser! 😂😂 Still missing the other four, though..." The first colors of sunrise shine above the horizon on the Bay. It's deep orange, fading into a soft lavender, and dark blue pre-dawn sky. The silhoutte of a palm tree is on free far right, with the lights of the pier, 1,000 feet out into the bay, appearing behind it.

Yesterday's movie selection was an interesting mix of total classics.

🪦Nightbreed (director's cut) (1990)
What lurks in the cemetary at night? who should we be really scared of?

☄️Night of the Comet (1984)
Ghouls appear after an apocalyptic event

🥦Troll 2 (1990)
OH MY GOOOOOOOOD!! (pls watch this)
Night Breed poster art featuring a black and white (with a hint of purple). At the top in orange reads "from the imagination of Clive Barker comes a new reason to fear the night." On the bottom in white, green, and orange reads "Clive Barker's Night breed. Meet the breed at a theatre near you!" Night of the Comet poster featuring a dark starfield at the bottom with a silhoutte of people at the top in a bright orange sky. The people have starry eyes. In the middle reads Night of the Comet. It was the last thing on earth they ever expected. In between the text is a lit doorway with the silhouette of a woman standing in it. Troll 2 poster art with text reading "Troll 2" over a dark scene of a blue lit doorway over a stairway. On the stairway is a child looking scared in pajamas with a large monster with an axe looming over him with red eyes.

I habe read quite a few books with the premise of "powerfull family made a Faustian pact". "Preaching to the Choir" by @aptshadow.bsky.social presents an interesting variation. And, I think, explores ideas like in "Alien Clay"? Loved @valdevia.art s illustrations & @petitecreme.bsky.social s cover.
Cover of "Preaching to the choir" depicting the silhoutte of a woman standing in front of a dark manor. Her upper body is a grinning skull. A double page from "Preaching to the Choir" with one of the illusteations, in this case of an eldritch sculpture.
