Skatebirds I actually remember, mostly because of Scatman Crothers.

They really should.
If Wacky Races and the fricking Abbott and Costello Show could find a spot in the House of Hanna-Barbera, so could the Cattanooga Cats shorts. Ditto the CB Bears and Skatebirds shorts.

The Skatebirds combined two popular things in the 1970s - roller skating and the San Diego Chicken
Sure, there were costumed mascots before, cheering on the sidelines, but the San Diego Chicken was on field comedy gold, and became nationally known.

In some jurisdictions, Mystery Island wasn't part of Captain Caveman. It was part of a short-lived show called Skatebirds.
(I literally just found this out)

Daily Hanna Barbera
The Skatebirds (1977) were a 70s version of the Banana Splits - live action antics coupled with animated or live action segments.
They were Knock-Knock the woodpecker, Satchel the pelican, Scooter the penguin and their foil, Scat Cat.
And yes, on roller skates.

47 years ago today, January 21, 1978, the final episode of Skatebirds aired on CBS, Gilda Radner's Roseanne Roseannadanna made her Weekend Update debut on SNL on NBC, and the porthole guest star sequence made its debut on The Love Boat on ABC.

Originally part of the Skatebirds. Ross Martin (Wild Wild West) does a number of voices, as does John Stephenson (Mr Slate). Hoyt Curtin composes. Only 32 8 minute segments.
Robonic is a nice twist of robotic, bionic and moronic.
Norman Maurer died himself in 1986, age just 60

I went looking into this and 1) all of the main Stooges died later than I had thought, with Moe Howard and Larry Fine dying in 1975 and 2) this was as part of a Banana Splits ripoff (Hanna-Barbera ripping themselves off) called Skatebirds that ran for 5mos, then saving the segments as its own show.

I didn’t really block the shows. I tried to have a good flow and placed shows that logically went together back to back.
Banana Splits and Skatebirds.
Mr. T and Chuck Norris.
Cattanooga Cats would go with Atom Ant/Secret Squirrel because the shorts in each show were from around the same few years.

I can't believe you would besmirch the high-quality animation that started as a segment on "The Skatebirds"

I definitely saw bits and pieces of Robonic Stooges in reruns as a kid (I was born in 76), but I have no memory whatsoever of the Skatebirds. I figure the Stooges got repackaged, since that was a constant in satAM cartoon programming back then.
