#skeletonizer
So this is new. I have never knowingly seen this species before: the Fig tree skeletonizer. But that's because it's a continental species that first appeared here (I'm in the UK) in 2014. Suddenly we have lots of them in the garden. We have no figs here so don't know what it's laying eggs on.

That time a friend gave me some grapes grown by a client of hers. This little Grapeleaf skeletonizer caterpillar survived three days in the refrigerator. We drove the neighborhood until we found some grapevines that we could relocate it to. The last pic is of an adult i found on internet. #BeKind

While we were nearby Lancaster, we stopped at Apollo Park, so I could sit in a tree, and then a visit to Aunt Mildred's house where she let is pick grapes off of her 50 year old vine, and I found a Grape leaf skeletonizer moth caterpillar.

The grapeleaf skeletonizer moth (Harrisina americana) is a common insect found throughout Florida (except the Keys) that feeds on grapevines and Virginia creeper.

This was so tiny I thought it was a fly but decided to try a pic . Turns out it's a Choreutis nemorana, the fig-tree skeletonizer moth.
I do have a fig tree covered in figs that never ripen, but I don't suppose this moth cares about that!🙄

Picking one favorite is way too hard. One that has been extra delightful for me this year is downy skullcap though. Among other reasons, it hosts this adorable little guy. www.inaturalist.org/taxa/228742-...

No one remembers the Gum Leaf Skeletonizer, the eldritch horror caterpillar of a couple of years ago??

Rather than throw its old head cases away, the gum leaf skeletonizer wears them like a hat to protect itself from predators.

Grapeleaf skeletonizer (Harrisina americana).

It was such a wonderful blue! It was the first and only one I have ever seen. We, nor any of the adjacent neighbors, grew grapes. No idea where it came from or where it was going. Its antennae were spectacular!

Moth trapping near Royston last night, at a science park. A very lively trap including Small Marbled, Sciota advenella (Willow Knot-horn), Choreutis nemorana (Fig-leaf Skeletonizer) and Small Mottled Willow. Great selection.
