#skookum
People used Chinook Jargon in logging camps, fishing villages, trading posts, and early settlements. Even today, you’ll still hear bits of it around BC — especially in place names like Tillicum Road, Cultus Lake, Skookum Chuck, Hyas Lake, and more.

So fabulous skookum
The challenges facing our cities may span borders, but so do the ideas that can solve them.

This marks the sixth year in a row that chinook have died in large number before spawning in the South Fork Nooksack River, where warm water and pathogens are a deadly mix for fish.

In conclusion, that’s why the Abbotsford Canucks’ mascot should be named ‘Skookum Chuck’.

The new one is a pretty skookum piece of kit, too, now that they have the bugs ironed out.

#MountRainier in the #Fall is hard to beat. The crisp air, the #changingleaves and a quiet spot along the White River (I believe it is the Skookum Falls Viewpoint). The #PNW is great, year-round, but it is exceptional in the Fall.

Those are great boats, well built, wave of as we say in our neck of the woods skookum vessels. Ouch, sorry about your car strike. Glad you're still able to enjoy the water.

Since #GloriaSteinem passed away, I might as well pay tribute by cropping a #comics scan I made in high school that involves one of my #OCs. ♀️🚻⚧️🟰✊✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 #RIP

Least surprising result as a lifelong PNWer; unfortunately the quiz didn’t have any questions to identify the unique pronunciations of my accent (like saying bay-g / tay-g / flay-g) or unique words (like Skookum for knowledgeable)

Not sure, but I have heard a native word for Bigfoot is Skookum... 🤷‍♀️

When we lived in Germany, we were only about 20 minutes from the Danish border & the size of all the Northern Europeans was quite shocking to me. Yet, we would head south towards France & the people would become more average sized (to us). But, the Dutch are especially a skookum bunch.

Ran into the ultimate friendly dragon today at work while we were disbudding the heritage Chrysanthemums! A green lacewing larva (Chrysoperla carnea) with its little tufty tubercules and its reverse-earwig mouthparts, I just love them. Also loving the way it was attacking all the aphids🐸

Yukoners are fond of the Chinook terms that continue to be used locally. Sadly, some think they are "a Yukon thing" "from the Goldrush". The Goldrush def. brought many Chinook speakers here. Would guess skookum is the most commonly used Chinook word, here.

Here in Oregon, we have evidence that Big Foot & Skookum vote by mail. We also need to ban these non-homo sapiens from participating in human sports.

There is no functional difference between people looking for rampant voter fraud and ghost hunters.
BREAKING NYT:

A month after the Trump admin declared without evidence that thousands of noncitizens had illegally registered to vote in Nevada, DHS officials were unable to substantiate the claim — finding just 185 potential anomalies, not the 16,000 claimed last month.

Is "scoff" a unit or a description? Like do you call the pan a scoff or do you mean what I would say was a hella or skookum load of chili?
