Day 12 - Reunion

Birds meander through the sky at a leisurely pace, nowhere specific to be in the hours before dusk, just like the two boys sitting along the back patio of the college library - birds of a feather sharing enthusiasm for like interests. One, taller and sleek like an oil-slick raven, holds a camera to his eye and focuses at the other boy, with vibrant plumage like a pastel cardinal, who laughs and turns away. "Ah c'mon MJ," the raven boy protests, letting the camera dip below his chin, but still held ready, "It's a nice day, I want it for my memories." "Dez, I-" MJ - the pastel one - starts to reply, before being interrupted by the chirp of an sms alert. "Hang on." It's impossible not to hear MJ's phone in motion with the sheer number of cutesy charms dangling from it, Dez always wonders how that isn't ridiculously heavy to carry around. MJ flicks the phone open with a smooth motion and a clack, eyes flicking across the screen for a moment before locking in fully. Two hands aren't really necessary for punching out a reply on the little 3 by 4 keypad, resulting in lightning speed little takka-takka-tak sounds. Ker-lack! The phone is closed and unceremoniously put back away. "I gotta go" "What about my photo?" Dez pouts, "How else will I remember hanging out with my bestie on such a nice day?" MJ laughs as he descends the concrete stairs to the green below. "You'll figure something out," he calls as he continues to walk away. Defeated, Dezi sets the camera aside, slumps down on a bench, and restlessly rolls a skateboard back and forth under his feet. He clicks his own phone open for a moment, a single lonely charm hanging from it. [No Messages] Klack. About to leave for livelier pastures himself, Dezi rises and looks out over the green. Moments before breaking line of sight in the wood across the green Dez spots MJ with someone he doesn't recognise - a tall man, dark and mysterious. Realising a moment for an interesting memory to keep, Dez jumps for his camera. That evening, looking over the photos from the day, one in particular stands out - a photo taken in a rush, zoomed further than ideal.. of a man Dez could swear is gazing straight into the camera. The man MJ left with… He seems somehow familiar. Klack, tak takka tak. [To: MJ | 9:47pm Hey who was the QT u left wit today?] [From: MJ | 10:02pm What?] "Oh my god," Dez mutters under his breath to no one, "You take that long to reply and its just 'what'?" [To: MJ | 10:03pm I saw u wit sum guy, tall n handsum, yanno?] [From: MJ | 10:03pm … ] [From: MJ | 10:04pm O m g. He's just from work. Thats all.] [To: MJ | 10:05pm Is he single?] Dez doesn't receive a reply, despite waiting the rest of the evening for one. In his minds eye, he pictures MJ snapping his phone closed in exasperation the way he does after a phone call he didn't want to have. The mental image makes Dezi smile a little. He tries not to think about the mystery man any further. As the sun rises anew, a new day begins, and Dezi wakes to his alarm reluctantly after some cryptic-ass dreams he refuses to engage with any further. A good shower will help… Hopefully. It doesn't. He ignores it, and sets out for the day, cruising down the street on the four wheels of his skateboard, looking for somewhere to go or something to do. Anything. Turns out sometimes life has a funny way of putting you exactly where you need to be, whether you want that or not. With his head in the clouds, an errant pebble in the path was all it took to dislodge Dezi from skateboard and reacquaint him with bitumen. Ouch. Worse, it just had to be right in front of the local cafe. Aw, and he thought the barista here was so cute too, but now he'd gone and made such a fool of himself. Dusting himself off and trying to reclaim what pride he still had as he stood, he nearly didn't notice his board still rolling on away. Embarassing times two. Dezi gathers himself and scrambles for it, though luckily a kind passerby steps off the path to grab it for him- Eyes panning up, trying to recompose, Dez realises- "Oh hey MJ!" "Hey Dezi. This yours?" Dez sucks a sharp breath in to retort, but it catches in his throat as he dimly comes to the realisation that MJ isn't alone. It's- "Oh," the stranger's voice surprisingly deep, catching Dezi's breath in his throat. "Is this that friend of yours you were telling me about?" The question isn't directed at him, but Dezi found himself floundering for a reply anyway, too caught up in his panic to even hear MJ replying to the question. "—Dez," He's struck back to reality, still only half receiving his skateboard, completely dumbstruck. "…huh?" "This is my boss," MJ says flatly, eyes narrowed tiredly at his friend. MJ's boss practically towers over the both of them, and Dez did not consider himself a particularly short young man. Dez looks over him before being cut short by catching his sharp gaze, stunned like a deer in headlights. Was this guy a model or something? He seemed alarmingly familiar. "Anapa, at your service," His deep voice reverberates in Dez's chest, and he offers a hand out for Dez to shake. Eyes stay locked a moment longer, lingering, before breaking for Dezi to acknowledge the hand offered. "D- Dezi," He stammers, introducing himself as he shakes the hand in locked eye contact again. Something about the piercing eyes, the near-golden hazel all but glowing in contrast to Anapa's dark skin, it had Dezi locked in. He swallows, trying to recapture himself, "Are you, um- would you two like to join me for lunch?" "It would be a pleasure," Anapa smiles, ignoring the way MJ looks at him with the same tired look he gave Dezi.

Went to a local church for Open House Chicago; St. Mary's, an Italian Renaissance style Catholic Church in Buena Park.

Absolutely gorgeous, and while I'm still processing photos, these are some quick interior and exterior shots.

After we were back at 8000’ we went for a short, steep hike to check out the ruins of pre-Columbian fortress, then more sunset cloud magic and finally dark skies star gazing!
Back in Santiago now, off to Valaparaíso mañana!
