Sometimes in life we remember great contributions to societies by looking from the bottom up vertically. From Hilo, Hawaii to New Orleans, Louisiana.

okay, picture this: a storm-dark scene split by a blazing, diagonal gash of orange light, like a red-hot saber slashing from bottom left to top right. Above that molten streak, a horned black dragon hangs in the air—wings ragged and spread, scales catching ember highlights, claws curled as if it’s about to pounce. Below the light, a lone armored knight braces himself, one hand gripping a long spear, the other raising a wind-torn black banner. The flag bears an intricate, glowing knot—think Celtic loops traced in fire—and its edges are singed by the same heat that slices the sky. Everything around them swirls with fine, carved lines, like smoke or etched woodgrain, so the whole image feels both windy and engraved. The dragon looms, the banner snaps, and that incandescent scar of light bisects them, turning the standoff into a mythic, last-breath moment frozen over an ocean of ash and sparks. picture a tall, cream-colored print with just two inks—deep indigo and warm gold. up near the top, a midnight-blue halo holds an eight-spoked wheel, crisp and white-rimmed, with a single watching eye set in its hub and a tiny star glinting above it. a short string of little triangular pennants hangs beneath. from lower center, a golden dragon—long and serpent-slender—spirals upward in an elegant S, its coin-like scales neatly tiled, whiskers streaming, head tilted as if contemplating the wheel. the shading is all soft stipple, so the blue gathers like dusk around the circle and fades toward the parchment edges. down in the far right corner, almost an afterthought, a small, inky silhouette of a hilltop temple sits in a haze. the whole thing feels like a woodcut poster—quiet, mystical, and beautifully restrained. okay—picture a tall, narrow panel, like a medieval icon. Down the center runs a vertical strip of matte gold, and against a deep midnight-blue sky dusted with tiny stars, a red, serpentine dragon coils around that gold band. It has wide, feathered wings the color of burnished copper, a crown of flame around its head, and one blazing, ember-bright eye; along its dark body are little glowing nodules like hot coals. A long, golden cord spills from its mouth and loops through a large hanging bell below—heavy, bronze, a bit weathered—while more ribbon-like tendrils curl in elegant spirals all around. At the very bottom, you can see a small, blocky city of slate rooftops tucked in shadow, and the whole scene is framed in warm gold. The palette is all rust reds, old golds, and night blues, and the vibe is mythic—like a celestial warning frozen in an illuminated manuscript. okay, picture this: on a charcoal-black, gritty surface lies a round, weathered metal medallion, its rim thick with rust and pitted like old iron. Inside the circle is a tiny mosaic of sea-glass greens—irregular tiles of turquoise and teal—forming a coiled serpent with a narrow, triangular head, like it’s frozen mid-slither. A thin, rusty wire snakes across the face as if stitching it in place, and two small, coin-like studs sit near the bottom rim. The whole piece is cinched by wiry loops tied in rough knots, making an oval frame that feels handmade and talismanic. A crescent of dust halos the top edge, as if the object was just brushed out of the earth, and the moody, side-lit glow makes the green tiles shimmer against all that dark, matte black.
