i think internet horror was just not that great back then and now the standards are higher
I'm still glad those stories existed because even if they don't hold up anymore the good reception motivated people to keep writing and slimebeast for example made some cool shit after Abandoned imo

The thing I love about stories like these is not only the relatability factor, but also how the mind tends to wander. I believe Slimebeast referred to this kind of writing 'keyhole horror', where you only get just enough to get a picture of what MIGHT be happening, yet not enough for a full picture.
