if you want slopgames, then you will have them and you will deserve them

Q: Aren't there a number of popular AI-generated titles on the platform? Wouldn't losing them hurt Itch?
A: This is inside baseball but it may shock you to learn that the people who do manage to luck into financial success with slopgames are exactly the type of assholes who set Itch's revshare to 0%

...or by trustworthy volunteers, but it will be a full-time job (banning 2k~3k slopgames per day) without pay

I mean, I kinda get it, this isn't the first time massive tons of slopgames were heralded as the end of steam only for it to have virtually zero impact.

Couldn't there feasibly be a system where, if a dev refuses to tag, Itch could either manually apply the tag or delist the game while optionally penalizing the dev. Bans could even apply in the case of a dev that uploads several untagged slopgames a day. Seems like a problem with solutions.

I've seen commercials for a lot of phone slopgames now that make a point of saying they work offline, but I don't know about Candy Crush either

hart.

Truly feeling a thousand years old here remembering the days when there were a lot of big game sites and magazines and almost everything got some degree of coverage and/or reviews, now all of that is cut to the bone while there's so many more landmine slopgames to watch out for
October 21, 2026 at 6:16 PM
yes that's exactly my point. we are going to get a million slopgames thrown together by scammers and shilled by streamers without principles
October 20, 2026 at 1:45 AM
yes but you forget the average gamer loves dogshit and will play dogshit if it's put in front of them. slopgames aren't a gameplay problem it's a problem of discovery and advertising which were already bad for indie games
October 20, 2026 at 1:40 AM
the absolute gall of finding some of these slopgames offering "supporter pack" DLC like look here motherfucker no one is gonna offset your token costs what the fuck
October 21, 2026 at 7:06 AM
IDK if there is a solution to slopgames that Steam could enact.

Can't ban the tech - ppl will lie.

Can't enforce human quality review - inconsistency re: NSFW review applied to a vague "quality barometer" is a recipe for disaster.

Can't gatekeep the platform - hurts the little guy.

This is so real. So many GENUINELY GOOD indie games have come out during and IN RESPONSE of the birth of AI slopgames as a wider general genre.

And more are yet to come!

i do also agree nothing slopgames have presented is actually a new threat or risk to the games industry just makes it easier to shit in the pool something the industry already had a huge problem with

When you can flip slopgames in a month and flip the ILLUSION of an early access game even faster, a person committing to an early access game resembles roulette.

I've not forgotten and I sure as hell ain't forgiven 2021.

Also slopgames from Microslop.
