Very impressive! The Celestron Origin seems to be the Rolls Royce of smartscopes
If you see this, please repost with a favorite photo of the sky that you’ve taken recently.

Disclaimer: I like smartscopes. But, will modular setups be replaced by them in #astrophotography? Maybe. If I had to guess, not soon. Below is a comparison. On the left is 1 five minute sub in Ha with a fast Newtonian and 5nm filter. On the right is 1 hour from a smart telescope and duo filter.

Smartscopes are definitely your friend on that front - but with no eyepiece you lose a little bit of the magic....

It’s strange to think: smartscopes have been with us for a half a decade+ now. In a short time, they've revolutionized amateur astronomy. We had a chance to put Dwarf Lab’s new Dwarf Mini through its paces.

Here’s our review @universetoday.com - www.universetoday.com/articles/rev...
Review: Dwarf Lab's New Dwarf Mini Smart Telescope
Telescopes are getting smaller. It’s strange to think: smartscopes have been with us for over half a decade now. Since 2020, we’ve tested units from Vaonis, Unistellar and more. In a short time, these...

The observation deck between the two will also have a bunch of smaller telescopes and smartscopes so you have things to look at while queuing for the big scopes!

🚀 After months of planning, discussions, & preparing for an idea that we weren’t sure would work, our new Astro 101 for Unistellar Owners kicked off Saturday at 100% capacity!

Big win for #CitizenScience + @Unistellar + @SETI communities.

We're all flyered-up and ready for @glasgow2024.bsky.social! A team of sci-fi enthusiasts from the Royal Observatory Edinburgh will be answering questions about the cosmos. If we get clear skies🤞, they'll also be sunspot spotting with two of our Scottish Youth Telescope Network telescopes. 🔭 👩‍🔬

Smartscopes are not fun. If I wanted something else to do my observing for me there'd be no point getting a telescope :-)

Thanks so much for pointing me to that - super to see what others are looking at with their smartscopes!

IMO, smartscopes are great for portability, outreach, being budget/beginner friendly. But I think their potential is still kind of limited. Again, I like smartscopes. They're good to have in your "quiver" of equipment. But I think most people who buy them as their first scope will end up upgrading.

The magic of seeing through a traditional telescope is hard to beat, but ease of use is essential. The sporty instructors at the centres will be using the scopes with the kids. It has to be super easy for them, or they'll just end up gathering dust. Happily the smartscopes are point-and-press!

arg has been that the object looks like a smudge or nothing that impressive hence the smartscopes & smart eyepiece. if u have audience that prefers all natural, go for it but smart stuff is much better as ppl can make sense of what they're seeing-it's combo two rather than one or the other......

Round #5 M51 the whirlpool galaxy and its neighbour dwarf galaxy NGC 5195.  🔭🧪

As we’re trialling these smartscopes for groups of pre-teens with short attention spans, we’re looking for objects that quickly “pop”.

🥇:A Unistellar win here showing that these two galaxies are clearly interacting!

I'd seen other people's images taken with Smartscopes so knew it was possible, never managed to try it until last night tho.

We have a fair number of smartscopes in @astronomyedinburgh.bsky.social , mostly Seestars with some Dwarf2s (and a couple of Dwarf3s on order) and one or two unistellars. @neilem.bsky.social wrote this article that may be useful: www.astronomyedinburgh.org/2024/06/21/s...

I think you might be able to get Galilean moon details with one of the much more expensive smartscopes, not sure I could do it with an S50.
