I've said this a bunch recently, but I think a lot about Timothy Leary living at the perfect time to be a techno optimist.
SMI2LE sounded so good in 1981, but space turned out to be insolvable, lifespan increases have stopped and intelligence increase is ChatGPT.

I was a borderline true believer in the late 80s. It depresses me that Timothy Leary’s SMI2LE failed so miserably that it’s only grifters like Musk who still talk about it. I want to live in the world where we’re hyper intelligent space explorers who live to 300.
Well that and SMI2LE turned out to be bunk on all 3 ends; outer space turned out to be non-explorable with our current levels of tech, there's been no singularity, and all of the people talking about us becoming immortal are now dead.
The techno-utopianism mixed in just feels off now.
