"'We will do fraud' say SMSF sector" is such a compelling public policy argument.

Don't mind, me, I'm just getting the trumbils ready

BREAKING
Australian Financial Review reports that retired couple with 4 million dollar SMSF devastated by news of 0.25% interest rate cut, saying that they will only be able to afford one Viking European Cruise this year

In the SMSF mate.
September 28, 2025 at 4:34 AM
Just spent 2 hours working with my husband on SMSF tax info. I deserve a medal.

With an average 5% annual rate of return on a superannuation fund, for a normal worker to reach $3M in super from age 18 to 65, you’d need:

Avg salary: $389,596 (every year)

Lifetime earnings: ~$18.3M

Or, maybe you just used your SMSF as a tax minimisation scheme.

The truth about the big end of town wailing about how Labor’s super changes will affect those poor wealthy folks.

It’s more likely to affect the ultra wealthy who use super funds to hide enormous wealth & not those at the lower end at $3m.

“Attack” on superannuation just fat-cat crocodile tears  - Michael West
The furore over the superannuation changes in the fossil media is grossly overcooked. The changes only affect the wealthiest.

Spend it, you greedy pig.
May 6, 2026 at 1:39 AM
Shit I had one of those. Should started an SMSF with tees as an asset class.
The Boomers are no longer hoarding all the wealth, gen x is

Nothing. Not a cent. Zip. Nada. Big fat zero. There's about 19 million people with super and this effects about 65 thousand people with balances of more than $3 mill (and even then it wouldn't require you to do anything unless you have an SMSF.)

For others who may not be aware of how eyerolly this can get - the farm is purchased by an SMSF from a holding company, using loans from a family trust, leased out to a secondary company, employing the very farmers that own the holding company, the SMSF, the family trust and the secondary company.
May 23, 2025 at 4:41 AM
To think they laughed at me when I set up a SMSF full of hammerheads
June 5, 2025 at 3:06 AM
IT IS HUMID IN MELBOURNE. THIS SUCKS. I AM BUYING TASMANIAN MANGO FUTURES WITH MY SMSF.
February 27, 2026 at 9:12 AM
Going to make an offer to buy half of Tasmania with my 1.6 billion dollar SMSF
June 26, 2025 at 12:29 AM
You can essentially rotate capital to reduce almost any possible tax to zero, including capital gains tax on unrelated investments held within the SMSF. It's a fuck'n rort.
May 23, 2025 at 4:44 AM
Which is why there should be taxes on unrealised capital gains, because these greedy pricks are not using super for their retirement but to AVOID PAYING TAX

Reminder - they are not self-funded retirees, they are tax-break funded retirees.

No disrespect intended to Dr Sally (who I adore) but I suspect quite a lot of people in Australia aren't overly familiar with self-managed super funds

The wealthy use them to park money and then re-use the assets in the SMSF for their own purposes. $3 million isn't pay-as-you-go contributions
Ok hands up
Who among you Aussies has more than $3m in Super?
What did you do for a living?

"My SMSF is over $3 million. How should I prepare for the new tax?"

Set up a bank transfer to pay it?

"We have $8M in a SMSF. How can we avoid the new super tax?" – SMH

What’s that? You only have $800,000 in superannuation savings?

Gosh, how sad that’s still four times the median for 65–69 year old Aussies.

And with a paltry $595,000 in savings can generate a “comfortable” lifestyle in retirement with $51.8k in income a year.

Perspective, people.

“Well I think that Dutton’s policy of giving tax write offs to small business for entertaining clients is a great idea.”
“So I’m assuming it’s your shout Gillie? From the family trust fund account, the SMSF, the hedge fund or your small business account?”
January 20, 2025 at 7:33 AM
Quote from Tax Office website:

'The sole purpose of your SMSF is to provide retirement benefits to your members, or to pay death benefits if a member dies before retirement.

To be eligible for the tax concessions normally available to super funds, your SMSF must meet the sole purpose test.'
June 25, 2025 at 12:29 AM
Exactly - nobody pays attention to SMSF, at least not in any detailed way
May 23, 2025 at 4:13 AM
"Bev and Ray Norman have a combined super balance of around $5.5 million. Assuming their fund's value continues to grow they'll soon be impacted by the changes."

so add your children to your SMSF.....you can have up to 6 people as beneficiaries of a SMSF

that puts the threshold to $18million
June 24, 2025 at 9:55 PM
I can tell you at least 10 families I know of personally, very well in fact, who use their SMSF for whatever asset investments they choose to benefit them

The idea that people of wealth do not regularly do this is fanciful
May 23, 2025 at 3:03 AM
I'm more surprised that less people know that lots of people with million $+ SMSF also have Works of Art and other Collectibles in their portfolios, as well as the farm.
