genuinely super great to hear the city’s amping up snow removal prep, but honestly the only lesson to be learned from the snowcrete is they should include a free case of dynamite with every shovel purchased

TFW it is now dark and chilly for your 6am bike ride but you know you would give anything for this 53F weather during another snowcrete incident so you ride.

And I ask that because making clearing schools the very last priority this winter during Snowcrete was very clearly a choice and if the schools are always coming in last in priority...maybe the city shouldn't be point on that anymore.

Where does 2026 rank in worst weather years in Charlottesville history? Started with snowcrete followed by the coldest month I’ve experienced here. A drought. A very hot summer. Many damaging thunderstorms. I need @traviskoshko.bsky.social’s thoughts.

I'm insufferably smug about the snowcrete because although I was recuperating from major surgery I looked at the sleet & rain the 1st night, looked at the temperature forecast, & vigorously compelled my family to go out in the weather & shovel out because I knew what was going to happen.

It’s a little fucked up bc there’s a lot of different reasons why ppl have kids when they do but I am glad we didn’t have to navigate online learning during the pandemic! I had a small taste of it last year with the snowcrete. Months of that? Everyone involved deserves a medal

Ha! The weather one endures enables the enjoyment in the other times. Here in Virginia the winter ("snowcrete") and the summer (44c, "code purple") can have very tough weeks.

I'm waiting until fall when concrete sets better before I get my busted up sidewalk fixed. The only way to break that ice was with violence that also broke the sidewalk. So I think of snowcrete every day.
