Area Light Volumes... Thanks to @pema99.bsky.social for implementing and contributing such an amazing feature to VRC Light Volumes! I can already imagine people using it as studio softboxes for photography!

Recessed-front softboxes are the best softboxes. This is one of my most strongly-held niche opinions.

Viola. Teaching shots from a workshop in Austria in June 2024. Both clamshell, but varying the angle of the softboxes to demonstrate the increased light control from having them "closed" rather than "open" (first shot). #workshop #teaching #portrait #photographer #lovemyimagenotmycaption

Back to basics with @meganlazaar.bsky.social in the small studio. A softbox no less! Two softboxes in fact, as I have a strip box with a grid back-left as an edge light. Also a tight grid on the mid grey paper behind Megan.

I love these big softboxes (must have a grid) - gives great light and shadow on the face and look cool in Behind The Scenes shots like this one. Only problem, they are too big to go on my motorbike. Any ideas, anyone?

After the chair @ella.maymodel (IG) and I moved into the studio.. 120 octa table-topped overhead, 120x27 strip softboxes with grids left and right in the back. Warm white paper, concrete texture added in post.

Looking up basic photography lighting guides can help if you're new/stuck, the ol' 3 point will work for most things but I'm a Rembrandt lover myself
You can also use the light types (1/2/3) to mimic things like softboxes depending on how close they are

I made myself a light diffusion box. Each panel attaches to adjacent ones via matching, recessed, neodymium magnets. This allows me to collapse the whole thing flat for storage. #photography

Mango in Euphoria in frame this morning. I like to share some of my less ‘technically proficient’ images on occasion. I had the bright idea of messing around with my on camera speed light. The speed light didn’t share my artistic vision at all. Note to self - stick to softboxes.

When I started out assisting photographers I was so jealous of all the equipment the had! Lights, softboxes, booms, large format cameras, all of it!
One of the photographers told me don't worry, you'll end up with a lot. It just finds you.

A 1997 photo of Midori for So Hip It Hurts #latex. Shot with available light, bay windows act like wrap-around softboxes when the sun hits the windows at the right angle. For me, it's always about finding the right light, not creating it. Photographed with a Canon A1.

Remember that a lot of YouTube is actual TV. As in, series that are broadcast domestically but put on YouTube internationally, shows made by production companies that are also making TV, licensed "reruns", etc. It isn't just dudebro douchebags flanked by softboxes and purple tube lights
