More Solarpunk Art August catchup.
Day 20: "Snowy Solarpunk"
Traditional log cabin, a dog sled as mode of transport in the snow and an in-ground greenhouse, also called walipini, utilizing the heat of the ground.

Solarpunk Art August continued!
Prompt for day 19: "desert solarpunk"
I painted an earth ship with solarpanels and greenhouse. In the background we have a wind turbine.

I am continuing Solarpunk Art August. 😁
Day 18: “polinators”.
I painted the usual suspects: butterflies and bees.

Painted them on a different piece of paper and stuck them onto the flowers. I like the 3D effect.

I had a lot of fun doodling through #solarpunkArtAugust and it was nice having something remind me to sketch a little every night (or few nights). We should do it again sometime but meanwhile here’s some of the doodles that came out of it

For the "pollinators" prompt for #SolarpunkArtAugust I kept thinking about the bees and butterflies who obsess over our sunflowers, so here's a sketch of their flight paths.

For "snowy solarpunk" I stayed pretty close to home-- There's a set of quilted curtains we're hoping to get put together to help keep in our heat in the winter nights, and ideally I would have thrown in a bunch of wind turbines. #SolarpunkArtAugust

For "Libraries" I just wanted to just recommend a whole pile of picture books that you might enjoy from your local library, all of which feel Solarpunk to me in some way. #SolarpunkArtAugust Details in alt text and comments. :)

For LGBTQ+ families, I really wanted to share a lot of images so instead of making the art myself, I wanted to highlight some queer representation in picture books we love. All bibliographic info in comments and alt text. #solarpunkartaugust

Today we are doodling tropical solarpunk! Parrot fish are an indicator species, so seeing one perusing your seawall coral reef restoration site is a pretty big deal

Today’s #SolarpunkArtAugust takes inspiration from the Great Green Wall being used to hold back desertification below the Sahara. Plots like these have been very successful in reclaiming the Sahel and increasing useable green space

The prompt for day 15 of Solarpunk Art August was “third spaces” made me think of libraries currently one of the few remaining third spaces.

I imagine, in a Solarpunk future, these kind of spaces will be abundant.

Today’s prompt: pollinators!

We love bees, but honeybees are not a native species. So take a closer look at some native pollinators when you have a chance (we’ve got 950 species of native bees here in Colorado alone)!

#SolarpunkArtAugust "permaculture" Here's a sketch of a few of the perennials we've planted in our yard; sage, coneflower, and yarrow.

#SolarpunkArtAugust "disability rights" Here's a sketch of a solution I'm imagining for a sidewalk near me. There's a giant tree completely destroying the sidewalk in one spot, and I just want there to be a colorful painted path from the driveway before to the driveway after for anyone with wheels.

The #SolarpunkArtAugust prompt for 8/14 is "disability rights." This was a tricky one to draw. As a model for the kind of disability rights I want to see in the future, I drew my own glasses: nearsightedness is so thoroughly accommodated in our society, it doesn't even register as a disability.

Perhaps stretching the term, "art" but looking at our church announcement page in the bulletin felt pretty solarpunk. #SolarpunkArtAugust

#SolarpunkArtAugust continues!

Every time I’m in Italy I’m stunned by piazza culture (hardly a groundbreaking revelation, I know). But one thing solarpunk spaces need to prioritize is urban shade. Here we have trees, market awnings, and a photovoltaic promenade in our Solarpunk piazza.

How do we think about disability rights and access in solarpunk futures? Lots of options, but I’ve decided to explore sensory gardens that provide low-stimulus environments for neurodivergent and other sensory-sensitive folks

Today's #SolarpunkArtAugust prompt is "permaculture." I wanted to draw a nitrogen-fixing plant, and settled on this lupine, since perennial lupines are also the host plant for the caterpillar form of Karner blue butterflies.
August 14, 2026 at 1:56 AM
The August 12 #SolarpunkArtAugust prompt is "solar ovens." In lieu of some art, I'm posting a photo of a little solar oven made by my six-year-old (with help from @clarabiesel.bsky.social ) from instructions in an engineering-for-kids book.
