For #WorldPhotographyDay here's one of my favourite images from #Iceland of the stunning Sólfar (Sun Voyager) sculpture in Reykjavík (by Jon Gunnar Arnason). Taken back in March 2013.
Pre-sunrise winter photo with lots of lovely pale blue and pink. Long exposure so smooth clouds over distant mountains. Main subject is a wonderful metal sculpture in the shape of a Viking boat, with the light making it look rose gold. Partly reflected in the frozen paving below.

Die Skulptur „Sólfar“ (deutsch: Sonnenfahrt) steht am Ufer von Reykjavik. Sie besteht aus glänzendem Edelstahl und erinnert an das Skelett eines stilisierten Wikingerschiffs, das sich mit geschwungenen, nach oben ragenden Streben in den Himmel reckt. Die Skulptur steht auf einer runden, gepflasterten Fläche direkt am Wasser. Im Hintergrund ist eine ruhige, türkisfarbene Bucht zu sehen, dahinter schneebedeckte Berge unter einem bewölkten Himmel. Das Kunstwerk symbolisiert Hoffnung, Freiheit und die Sehnsucht nach neuen Ufern.

Today is the 12th anniversary of its creation, on my 5th trip to #Iceland, on an extremely cold but beautiful morning. It is called Sólfar, or Sun Voyager, and it was designed by sculptor Jón Gunnar Árnason.
