Hey, if there is a protest over the planned cuts at #SSU, can someone please let me know? Thanks a lot!

The #SSU cuts weren't random, but drawn from across the liberal arts and sciences. Pre-professional programs were spared. The agenda is to replace higher education with vocational education, and not just at SSU. CA Legislature: In an age of misinformation, we need higher education. #SonomaState

It took 10 minutes to call these numbers. Mostly, I got to speak to a human. If you want to save #SonomaStateUniversity, please do this. Sorry I don't know who to credit for this image.

If SSU can be saved, it's up to the legislature. They need to say: (1) No CSUs are going to close, (2) Give SSU what it needs to survive, and (3) Including not only money but also new leadership with a plan to make the most of the campus's assets. #SSU #SonomaState

Why does #SonomaState have financial issues? Same issue all CS and UC have, bloat at top:

The interim president of Sonoma State University, Emily Cutrer, has a base salary of $381,408. She also receives an additional $60,000 per year for housing and a $1,000 monthly car allowance.

Keep in mind every day that the plan to save #SonomaState is being crafted by the same people who made the plan to destroy Sonoma State, and who have demonstrated their utter disregard for the community. There needs to be an alternate competing plan.

There was no attempt by the administration to recognize and preserve a truly distinguished Philosophy program that re-imagined the major with four tracks, all practical and relevant to 21st century life and the economy: Pre-Law, Robotics, Social Justice, and The Good Life. #SSU #SonomaState

This is from the legislative hearings on the future of #SonomaState, held February 21, 2025. The congressman who has represented this campus "forever" understands #SSU better than the CSU system itself does. The rot at the CSU system goes all the way to the top, and the legislature must intervene.

According to President CUTrer, "Because attendance at the Town Hall...is expected to surpass the capacity of any campus facility, the meeting will instead be held virtually." Surely this is not so. The Green Music Center opens up. They should look us in the eye. #SSU #SonomaState #LookUsInTheEye

Strange when they say to think interdisciplinary, then tell us that Philosophy, Economics, and Geology can be removed without much harm -- as if only your major mattered. In fact, most units should be GEs and electives. So everyone is hurt, not just a few under-enrolled majors. #SSU #SonomaState

All industries face demographic shifts. Mattel doesn't shut down. There are always two options. Colleges can either compete better with other schools, or convince students who would not otherwise have chosen college that they should choose college. Colleges need not self-destruct. #SSU #SonomaState
Are colleges really facing an enrollment cliff?
Colleges and universities in the U.S. are facing some strong headwinds on enrollment figures, forcing some tough conversations.

This is part of the same story, and it's great news for Silicon Valley, and bad news for #SonomaState. AI is corrosive of education unless you use it VERY carefully, and whatever #SSU's problems, it wasn't that students and faculty couldn't access ChatGPT.
