What you are kids doing for #SoutelphanSaturday? We're listening a mind-blowing duet by Mohamed Taha and Sherifa Fadel (Fallah, 1964, Soutelphan) from the label's fifth year in business. Hear the track at ahmedadaweya.blogspot.com/2024/05/shaa...

My favorite Mohamed Abdel Wahab song = Cleopatra. I've had damaged versions on CD & 10" vinyl but this LP version is the first genuinely listenable one I've owned. 1973 Soutelphan with a sticker from the mighty Rashid Sales Co. on the back. Tears streaming down it's so beautiful

Get a loada THIS hunka hunka burnin love! No, that's not Elvis in the South Pacific it's Mohamed Rushdy on Soutelphan (#SoutelphanSaturday). This slow-burn was released in the label's 9th year & it's one of our faves (Mita Ashoufak, 1968).

Hey Kids! Adults! Collectors! #SoutelphanSaturday is almost over; show us your Soutelphans! We'll start: Here's one from the label's 11th year by our favorite still-living Egyptian singer Nagat al-Saghira (Fi Muntasaf Altariq, Soutelphan, 1970). Peak silkscreen era cover

The sun's setting but #SoutelphanSaturday is still going strong! Here's a terrific 10" release from the label's 7th year: Abdel Halim Hafez, Soura ... Soura (Soutelphan, 1966)

SOUND ON: You know who Sherifa Fadel is singing about on this #SoutelphanSaturday banger from the label's 10th year? Me. Yes, ME! Sharifa Fadel, Gary (Soutelphan, 1969)

Post 2 for #SoutelphanSaturday from the label's Year 2: Fairuz | Rahbani Brothers: Fayiq 'Aw Ansaa b/w 'Arjuk Ya Oumi (Soutelphan, 1961). Mohamed Abdel Wahab published Mohammed Salman to secure Nahah Salam but I wonder if this is a direct face-slap to Oum (who he never published)

It's Soutelphan Saturday! First up, a release from the label's Year 1: Mohammed Salman, Bye Bye b/w Six o'Clock (Soutelphan, 1960). Born in southern Lebanon, Salman moved to Cairo, where, w/wife Najah Salam, he founded Samar Film. Side A = pure novelty, Side B = orchestral folk

Finally scored Volume 1, completing the set! Laila Morad Volumes 1, 2 and 3 (Soutelphan, 1975). One of the greatest Egyptian voices of all time. Is it coincidental that Oum had passed just months before these were released, or had Wahab & Hafez been sitting on them, waiting ... ?

Next up on #SoutelphanSaturday from the label's Year Four: Abdel Halim Hafez, El-Gazair (Soutelphan, 1963). Massive sweeping orchestration by Baligh Hamdi, lyrics by Egyptian poet Kamal Mansour. Does the woman in white represent Algeria, which had gained independence in 1962?
