"Musk is a dangerous individual and the fact that he controls SpaceX increases the national security risks. But the risks would exist no matter who controlled the company. If a wise trillionaire controlled SpaceX outright, it would still be an unacceptable risk."

At some point soon, this won’t even be a controversial view. The government’s relationship with SpaceX as it stands right now is untenable. www.thebulwark.com/p/nationaliz...

"Relying on SpaceX to conduct launches and deliver payloads, and allowing it to establish its own communications network, is akin to the Pentagon letting McDonnell Douglas build its own strike fighters and sell them to whoever it wants. It’s madness."

Now that there's monopoly control and that single owner is conducting freelance defense policy using his company, it's time to rebalance that initial mistake.

The gov't treats SpaceX like it treats Facebook. It should treat SpaceX like it treats Boeing.

🇺🇸 SpaceX may have helped Russia’s Kosmos-2612 get within 500m of ICEYE-X36, a satellite supporting Ukraine, on Oct 18. SpaceX issued a false collision alert that stopped ICEYE from maneuvering. Russia had similarly shadowed a US spy satellite in 2022, but at a much greater distance – around 70 km.

SpaceX describes Starshield as a "secured satellite network for government entities" that "leverages Starlink technology." And don't forget SpaceX gets *paid* to provide both Starshield and Starlink to Ukraine by NGOs, governments, etc. Poland is a big customer so is U.S. Pentagon.

There it is. Elon Musk admits it.

“That loophole was closed last week.”

In a deranged post on X, Musk openly acknowledges that SpaceX recently restricted Ukraine’s ability to use Starlink.
