You would think if you bought a new TV direct from the manufacturer and they threw in their own branded speakerbar it would work straight out the box but no there is apparently no way to control soundbar volume w/the included tv remote

Her tv is fine it's just too old to use CEC (or ARC) to talk to any of her other devices. We had to use a little DAC to connect to her speakerbar via toslink

Looking at options to try turn an old Galaxy S5 (has an IR blaster) into a universal remote for my grandma. Ideally I want it to handle her cable box, old tv, speakerbar (no ir, no hdmi cec) and Chromecast all from one interface - or a couple of widgets she can easily swap between. Any ideas?

I tried the HDMI port on the speakerbar but then Wayland/Kwin/KDE got REALLY fucking confused about me trying to use a "monitor" for audio but not for video. This is not helped by the speaker bar thinking it's doing HDMI passthrough *no matter what*.
