A hill on which I will die: Running morality as a value premise in Lincoln-Douglas debate is inappropriate. It’s completely circular and is not a value itself. Yes, the fact that it’s empty means you collapse into your value criterion but I still hate it.

Using outdated cultural references to out to the entire world that you were never invited to any of the parties growing up a brown kid in #Ohio - well, neither was I, but my #SpeechandDebate nerd friends and I all mostly grew up into well-adjusted adults, which Vivek clearly did not.

The local informative speaking circuit is stacked. We have the person who got 3rd at Nats last year. My Kid has been raking. Zhe has a teammate w/ 2 wins.
But the Kid got the “1” in a prelim round with 3rd-at-Nats and took 3rd in the entire tournament.

To run it because it works with lay judges, I’m going to acknowledge the truth of the statement but then point out you are intentionally coaching your students to run circular moral arguments to achieve a desired end (breaking).
