The Alamosa City Council adopted Ordinance 17-2026 to repeal and replace the city’s prior AVIS rules, allow automated citations for speeds more than 25 mph over the limit in designated corridors, and authorize a maximum fine of $120 for those violations; the measure passed unanimously.

Four young drivers aged 17-23 have been fined and had their licences suspended after being caught speeding in Canberra during a police operation. The incidents occurred between July 9-11, 2026, with officers clocking vehicles exceeding speed limits in areas like Throsby and Gungahlin. Two 17-year-old P-platers driving Volkswagen GTIs received $750 fines, four demerit points, and 90-day licence suspensions. A 20-year-old from Kambah tested positive for a prescribed drug and faces charges for drug-driving and speeding. A 23-year-old in a black Audi Q5 was fined $1891 and banned for six months after exceeding the 80kmh limit. Police warned of the dangers of speeding and urged motorists to report dangerous driving via the ACT Policing portal. The incidents follow recent bodycam footage showing a P-plater admitting to losing their licence for speeding. All offenders were cautioned for not displaying P-plates where required.
