Selaginella (Spikemoss) covered munge ledges on broken pink granite cliff face. Over time dirt and detritus from the forest deposits on the ledges making a good environment for Selaginella on these north facing exposures #nativeplants 🌿 Button Rock trail today.

Was going through my photos picking out ones to feature on the up-and-coming website, and I totally forgot about this one. Selaginella apoda is our native spikemoss. It is, of course, not a moss, but viviparous member of the class Lycopodiopsida. Yes, they "raise" their young! #NativePlants

It's a bit mucky when you get down to the level of this spike moss. It doesn't seem to mind and I quite like a bit of muck 🌱

When I first spotted Watson's spikemoss, I saw a small clump of green on the ground. Then I zoomed in with my macro camera, and marveled to see its fascinating structure.
