Mirabilis 🌙
#spinosaurusmirabilis #spinosaurus
A surreal purple spinosaurus (loosely based on Spinosaurus mirabilis) sitting in a lagoon-like area. It has a yellow moon shaped horn that is dripping light into the lake. The whole image is covered in fine-lined doodles and swirls. The water is green and the background is a gradient of dark blue to purple.

Spinosaurus Mirabilis: Hell Heron

#dinosaurs #paleoart #spinosaurus #spinosaurusmirabilis #portrait #digitalart #2d #ilustration #noai
Name: Spinosaurus Mirabilis (Wonderfull Spine Lizard) Family: Spinosauridae Diet: Piscivore/Carnivore Time Frame: Cretaceous Period (95 Million Years Ago) Location: Farak Formation, Niger. Length: 12 to 13 Meters Wheight: 7 tons. Biography: A more slender and coastal species of the infamous spinosaurus, distinguish by the large crest over his forehead being much longer and straight that the aegyptiacus species. This dinosaur was much better adapted to fishing on the surface of the water with his longer legs, catching there prey with there jaws like a modern day heron, rather than swimming on the surface of the water and catching prey like a crocodile like his larger ancestor.

Yep. You've read all the news. Here's the crested hell-heron Spinosaurus mirabilis.

Shame we have Myrhvold as one of the co-author. Epstein acquaintances are heinous and needs to be executed in public

The newly described species of Spinosaurus, S. mirabilis aka. Wonderful Spined Lizard. The specimen, discovered in Farak Formation, Niger, by the team led by Paul Sereno, consisted of 3 individuals with partially preserved skull materials plus several post-cranial skeleton remains. It wasn't that well-articulated (this side of Suchomimus tenerensis, spinosaurs tend to be poorly preserved), but it was good enough to determine that this new specimen from Niger is indeed a new species. The entire cranial built is more gracile than S. aegyptiacus, and the hind limbs are relatively lankier and longer than the type species S. aegyptiacus. But the weirdest thing about S. mirabilis is that tall, scimitar-like crest that was highly vascularised. This implied the existence of keratinous sheath like the casque on cassowaries, guineafowl and hornbills. The function of those sail and tailfin, as it has always been, remained a subject of contention. But with the presence of the keratinous crests, I became more convinced that those sails served as a display structure. Perhaps a healthier adult would have possessed a brightly-coloured crests and flashy, eye-searing sails to attract opposite sex. Another unique thing is that unlike S. aegyptiacus, which lived near the fluvial and shallow coastal/delta environments, S. mirabilis lived far from any shoreline, some 300km away from the nearest ancient shoreline. This explained its lankier, long-legged built compared with its relative. However, studies on the oxygen isotope determined that both species of Spinosaurus possessed a lifestyle unlike any other non-avian dinosaurs, being closer to the likes of stork and herons, as waders that hunts fish and terrestrial animals alike. P.S.: I know that one of the co-author, Nathan Myrhvold, is indicted having visited Jeffrey Epstein for fundings. And yes that soured the entire experience for me. Gross misconduct, to put it kindly.

Digital illustration of Spinosaurus Mirabilis floating over a blue rectangle on a light blue background. It faces right, its head bowed and jaws open. Its chest is slightly at 3/4 view, while its hindquarters twist back to be in profile. Its tail is unnaturally gathered underneath it. Its front claws sit in front of it below its head, while one back leg is raised and the other lowered. In the bottom right corner is a watermark reading: “LEAVES AND INKS”
