This is not a new piece either, but I loved working on it. The story it tells.
For Ajna to become a lorekeeper she needs to learn their people's legends and songs. This is her first instrument. It's a secondhand one, but sounds just fine. Perfect for learning.

From time to time I take an attempt to visualize the world of Spirit Howl and Spiritpunk as maps or planets.

For the longest time this was the map for the "known world", but I already knew I wanted this to be only a fraction of what is out there.

Next step is to work out the biomes, climates.
I'm not too precious about the rest of the world. I have a vision for the old territory. Made some early tests to see if it can work. Some parts will have to change, but thankfully most of my initial idea can stay.

The idea was there for many years, but I again struggled to visualize, grasp how this shattered world look like. Eventually I turned to 3D to help create something that I like. Ended up with something like this.

This was a multi-year winter tradition of mine.

The lore was that Kanda's people celebrate the winter solstice by leaving sacrificial food and magical lights at shrines to satisfy the spirit of the winter's hunger, so it goes back to sleep and spring can come.

As I started figuring out what I wanted with the rest of the world and worked on how this place came to be to begine with I had the idea to have it a broken, shattered planet.
I had my reasons, but also, I just found it to be a cool concept :)

I had a lot ... and I mean A LOT of space to fill out.
First I just went in and drew up some continents randomly, but then thought: "yeah, but the shells may move and bump into each other, which would form mountains at the edges of the shells."
So today I reached this state:

Finally I had a planet... but what now?
I had to place the old map on this somehow. I had a general idea how big the old map was supposed to be and how close it would be to the pole, but it still surprised me so see it in context...

Rat folk, aka trogs are one of the antagonist groups of the main Spirit Howl story.
They are a young species but resilient and reproduce very fast. Sneaky, opportunistic little buggers.
