For those returning in search of their families and homes, entire towns are unrecognisable. Most of Gaza is a wasteland of rubble, entire neighbourhoods have been reduced to ashes. Together with Riad Othman (@medicointernational ), Diana Nazzal (@palestinespeaks ), Iris Hefets (@juedischestimme ) and Dr Nahed Samour (Radboud University), we analyse the systematic destruction of livelihoods in Gaza. In addition to incessant aerial bombardment, the Israeli state's key strategies have included starvation as a weapon of war, the targeted destruction of vital infrastructure and the almost complete destruction of the healthcare system. What is the current situation on the ground and what long-term effects can be expected for Gaza? 🍉 Afterwards there will be a small buffet and music by Hamza @qabbani7amza 🎶 🇵🇸

We also welcome other communities / people living in diaspora, who feel disconnected from their Indigenous Lands and can take the workshop as an opportunity to reconnect, rebuild their memory and curiosity about wild plants. The workshop aims to connect Palestinian, Lebanese, Jordan and Syrian communities as well as other diasporic communities through shared knowledge of wild plants, common struggles and traditional recipes. Our event consists of two parts: the first part of the workshop involves the foraging activity, and the second part focuses on cooking together. We will encounter wild plants and trees growing in Spore’s garden and the adjacent area and explore their relation to the flora of historic Palestine, on which we will also share our findings. We will provide the basic ingredients for food preparation such as the pastry fatayer and tabouleh style salad. The collective cooking will develop based on the ideas and recipes of the participants. Please feel free to also bring additional ingredients to share for that. We will share stories and memories connected to the local plants and their siblings in the Levant area, also inviting references to other diaspora experiences, during foraging as well as the collective cooking. ❝We see seeds as living archives of memory and resistance. We’re reclaiming seeds and plants that hold stories against erasure❞ …
