An atmospheric walk today in a glorious lost valley on the edge of Bodmin Moor: full of naturally regenerated willow, hazel & oak, festooned with mosses and the weird fish-smelling Sticta lichens (this one's Sticta sylvatica). Found otter spraint & some Hazel Gloves fungus too.

Down to the beach yesterday evening to pick up plastic crap - a pleasingly low haul of that, and some natural treasures to be found - another vertebral disc from a long-gone cetacean (Minke?), and Otter spraint.

Last summer, i heard a rumour that there were otters in the streams in the village, so Izzy and I went hunting for footprints and spraint. Then we put up a trailcam, and after a little while, we saw one!

Nature has an amazing capacity to surprise. A kingfisher caught on camera appearing to investigate (or even taste!) an otter spraint at Waterstock Local Wildlife Site. Any ideas what's going on here? 🤔

Out early along the lovely River Lee on the bike this morning. Spotted this very stealthy otter cruising close to the banks, hardly making a ripple. It climbed out briefly to spraint, entered the water again and disappeared. #cork

Just look at this. A small bright green volcano of hope. A spraint mound, reinvigorated & now visited daily, on a path next to a field once badly overgrazed but slowly returning to health. It means otters are returning to this patch of coast & edge land 🥰
