Deathtrap (1982) Dir. Sidney Lumet — Reeves goes for a full rebrand and, honestly, nails it. Yes, it still feels a bit stagebound, and yet, the film winds tighter and tighter until it snaps. Clever, tense, and packed with great acting. Nasty fun anchored by great turns from Caine-Reeve-Cannon.🎞️📽️

The cinematography by Stanley Cortez in THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER is exemplary. Also it is likely never better than when it's stagebound sets passing for exteriors. Haunting and iconic.

Another thing the WICKED film did was really help me understand Glinda's decision at the end of Act 1. On stage, Elphaba flying is an abstract concept done with wires. It's easier to judge Glinda for not going with her because while powerful, it's all very stagebound. (1/2)

It was, Garrett Fort based his screenplay on Hamilton Deane and John Balderstone's stage play. Which would account for many of the changes and its stagebound atmosphere and yes, hopefully have impressed Stoker!

Yes, Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderstone. Fantastically evocative names! I really like the films stagebound style and lack of score, it's distinctively 30s. And I'm a bit of a theatregoer myself, so it works for me...

It is indeed future director Blake Edwards. I really like this film, it's low budget but for me that works in its favour. The almost stagebound, swampland sets are wonderfully eerie. For a 'poverty row' production it's quite well regarded now, definitely one to check out...
