#StandingStoneSunday A flying visit today to the stunning C9th-10th AD Nevern high cross, very likely standing on or close to its original spot on an early Christian site.

One the great treasures of Pembrokeshire 🤩

Froggatt Edge Stone Circle, with its one upright menhir, may seem underwhelming at first sight, but is situated in spectacular Peak District scenery with rugged rock cliff faces and views across valleys for miles around. Mine, today. Happy #StandingStoneSunday

Clach Ghlas, an unusual lone standing stone in the middle of moorland on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland

It's suggested to be all that's left of a Neolithic or Bronze Age tomb, now lost (but is still labelled as such on maps!)

We archaeologists tell the stories of the stones not to erase their mystery, not to undo their role as anchoring post for folklore, but to transmit the Long Neolithic. We give context for ghosts, provide new reasons for lithic pilgrimage. – Dr. K. Brophy #StandingStoneSunday

Most people never go or even know this place. It's down a bumpy dirt road away from any important road. Some of the worst bridges I've ever seen where on that route.I biked 110 that day for it.

A few hundred metres off a single track road crossing Sheriffmuir and through thick heather stands the Wallace Stone. Tradition is that this was where the Scots army mustered in 1296 but it's 2000 years older than that.

It's the only one of a row of five that's still upright.
