Robert Azensky Fine Art is pleased to offer this striking sculpture by artist John Jagger (American, 1920 - 2013), 1989. This is a pieced steel representation of a Rainbow Trout, composed of intricately arranged and welded metallic elements is abstracted yet recognizable, reflecting nature-inspired design. The skeletal structure of the trout is emphasized through an openwork design so that the bronze plated supine mermaid can be viewed and appreciated. Curved metal plates forming its rib-like body and fine comb-like details enhance the fins adding a kinetic quality to the sculpture. The head features an expressive, slightly open mouth with sharp detailing, evoking a sense of movement and vitality. The tail curves dramatically upward, further reinforcing the dynamic energy of the piece. Jagger’s signature industrial aesthetic and skillful use of metalworking techniques give this piece a sense of both strength and delicacy, reminiscent of natural skeletal forms while celebrating the raw beauty of the material.
