Anyway the rest of this patch is a delight. In addition to the buttonbush, Joe Pye, mountain mint, brown eyed susans, self-heal, wild bergamot, swamp milkweed, and golden alexanders (deep breath) ... the steeplebush, Spiraea tomentosa, is starting to bloom. 🌱 #nativeplants

A cottontail rabbit rests under a patch of steeplebush (Spirea tomentosa) that it was using as a food source back in January. To the left of the rabbit, many branches with clean cuts from their sharp teeth can be seen. #nativeplants

I potted up four species of #nativeplants seedlings this afternoon, mostly from winter sowing seeds I collected from my own garden. They are small but they are many. 🌱

Planted skullcap, boneset, NJ tea, ironweed, NE aster, snakeroot, germander! The cardinal flower and steeplebush both need a little more time in the winter sowing jugs. Fingers crossed everything takes off! 🌱

Winter sowing update: marshmallow, steeplebush, Rocky Mountain bee plant, snakeroot, skullcap, New England aster, and false indigo are all germinating! Still hoping for others; this is our first year, so we don’t know when to expect what! Gonna have so many #NativePlants! 🌱
