Legendary former Australian captain Steve Waugh has delivered a stern piece of advice for India skip

Former Australian cricket captain Steve Waugh is turning his attention to developing the sport in Europe, backing a new cricket league aimed at expanding the game beyond its traditional strongholds. Known for his resilience and leadership during his playing days, Waugh is now applying that same determination to building a competitive cricket presence in a region where the sport has historically struggled to gain mainstream traction. More than two decades after retiring from international cricket, Waugh is actively involved in helping establish teams and infrastructure for this emerging European competition. The initiative reflects a broader effort within global cricket to tap into new markets, diversify its audience, and create fresh commercial opportunities. Europe, with its large population and growing multicultural communities, is seen as fertile ground for this expansion. Waugh’s involvement lends credibility and visibility to the project, particularly given his reputation as one of Australia’s greatest cricketers. His role goes beyond symbolic support; he is contributing to strategic planning, talent development, and promoting the league internationally. The goal is not only to attract local players but also to draw international talent and investment, helping elevate the standard of play. The league faces challenges, including limited grassroots infrastructure and competition from more established sports across Europe. However, organisers are optimistic that with experienced figures like Waugh on board, the venture can build momentum. If successful, it could mark a significant step in cricket’s global evolution, positioning Europe as a viable new frontier for the sport.
