I saw Mary Rand qualify for the 1964 Olympics at Longford Park stadium, Stretford.
Rest in Peace, athlete, Mary Rand who has died age 86. She won long jump gold at the 1964 Olympics. Rand became the first British woman to top the podium in track and field at the Games.
She held the long jump world record of 6.76m – set at the Olympics, for four years /1 😢
