Since most abusers are not strangers but rather trusted community figures, it takes a very strong will to have the courage to speak up and say, “This beloved community member hurt me.” In other words, strongwilled children are child protection.

I don't really have the energy or emotional bandwidth to turn STRONGWILLED into a traditionally published book but then sometimes I remember Tim LaHaye published like 170+ books spewing his violent, patriarchal, authoritarian views and I'm like . . . huh. Maybe I can dig deep and try.

As @dlmayfield.bsky.social and @krispinmayfield.bsky.social have documented in their excellent "Strongwilled" multimedia series (strongwilled.substack.com), evangelical leaders knew the research on child abuse and child protection decades ago but still blamed queer and other marginalized people.

Celebrating the small but meaningful milestone of having 4,000 subscribers to our project on religious authoritarian parenting methods called STRONGWILLED. We are working towards transitioning away from Substack but I am grateful for the slow, intentional growth we have achieved.
