Ugh. I knew both Peter Bourne and his accuser Keith Stroup. They set back drug policy reform by many, many years. Not the proudest moment for them. Jimmy Carter was going to decriminalize marijuana before this scandal.
Unfun fact: Jimmy Carter came very close to ending federal marijuana prohibition in 1978 (his sons had all smoked), but Keith Stroup founder of NORML foolishly outed “drug czar” Dr. Peter Bourne for using cocaine at a party after they had a spat over another dispute. Both are old friends of mine.🤦🏻♂️
