#structured-income
I don't think $140k makes sense as a "poverty line," but worth noting such a family is likely paying a similar or higher total effective tax rate than most billionaires.

American taxes are structured to make it hard to turn income into savings but easy to grow existing wealth into greater wealth.

i miss having any sort of disposable income but i do also just feel i'm personally not built for any kind of regular, structured work

Literally who fucking cares. These dudes have their compensation packages structured so most of their income is unrealized gains anyway, and then they offset the rest of their tax by making “charitable donations” to bullshit foundations they control.

In this scenario NVIDIA would set up an entity to buy its own GPUs and then lease them to OpenAI. This isn’t exactly what Enron did, but it’s sure getting close!

If I were a billionaire, I'd happily pay 25-30% tax on income to make my little corner of the world a less shittier place to live in.

I still can't understand how our society is structured so that the sociopaths float to the top.

I suppose that's a problem to be solved in another lifetime.

The thing about progressive income taxes is the rates get higher as income gets higher. Many low income Americans pay no federal income tax because of low rates, deductions and credits.

If you’re truly tapped out a well structured state income tax shouldn’t have much effect on you at all.

Final comment on this: Massachusetts should actually reform our state income tax code. Right now it's flat, which is regressive and unfair. It should be tied to income brackets, as the federal income tax code is structured. Rich people should pay more than 5 percent, not less. Thank you.

being unemployed would be so sick if it wasn't for the world being structured entirely on having a source of income

my summer 2 class got cancelled & the lost income is hard but I signed up bc if I don’t have specific, structured work obligations I get depressed. so now I have to figure out how to manage the unstructured summer time that for many people is a gift but for me is very difficult.

Military childcare is income based which allows parents to stay in the workforce who otherwise wouldn’t. Typically childcare is structured where you pay the most when your child is the youngest, and less as they age. Income based models flip that.

Why do middle class tax cuts always seem to be structured to the benefit of higher income Canadians?

@budgetlab.bsky.social back in September originally estimated that a FLSA overtime deduction would cost $866 billion over 10 years, without any assumed income limits or overtime caps, and would cost $1.3 trillion if structured as an exemption applying to both income & payroll taxes.

apparently she's referencing a wealth tax policy and the cutoff limit for it she has but has structured the way she brought it up very, very, badly.

It is even plausible that many poor people will simply pay more taxes than higher income earners under a poorly structured tariff system with a lot of loopholes for rich.

In short, Trump's plan is (1) impossible (2) terrible.

The exemptions come in the form of *tax deductions* that some workers will be eligible to claim when they go to file their taxes *the next year.*

FYI that these proposed deductions are temporary, expiring after a few years.

I mean, it can be useful and tax-advantageous in some cases! But in my case, my business partner and I structured the LLC when it was my only income and so I own the lion's share of the tax liability, which worked out perfectly for ages--

Because the Low Rise Ordinance is structured as a bonus program, projects require affordable units, and you cannot stack additional bonuses on top.

In LR-1, you need to provide one Moderate Income unit, and in LR-2, you need to provide either two Moderate Income units or one Lower Income units

I don't love the regressive nature of a strong VAT tax but it seems to have taken the sting out of some race-to-the-bottom populist anti tax policies like no tax on tips and the proposal at issue in your original post. Another point in favor of using more VAT, less structured income taxation?

It’s just true based on known information. Medicaid not only covers most nursing home care and so on, but it’s also a primary source of income for many home caregivers (see: Structured Family Caregiving and PASSPORT in Ohio, for example).

My latest neuroses is feeling bummed that I’m going to be a poor single income person forever in a world that’s structured for double income folks. But today I saw a post of someone calling their gf out for drawing deltarune porn and I feel the tiniest bit of relief that thats not me LMAOO

The highest federal statutory corporate income tax rate in U.S. history was 52.8%, which was in effect during 1968 and 1969.

This post is confusing the personal income tax rate with the one applied to corporations. The brackets for each were structured differently during the progressive tax era

Basic income is great AND it's HUGE for people experiencing any kind of life transition. Stress and precarity are worse together than each alone and they both compromise your ability to learn, plan, execute rigidly structured tasks and other stuff we expect people to do during major life shifts.
