#stuckness
what if your stuckness is the only place your anger has been allowed to go
July 18, 2026 at 2:17 PM
This definitely, but also, sometimes you're stuck because you've done something wrong somewhere, and your writer brain knows it even if you don't. You need to find the reason for the stuckness.
Getting stuck while we're writing is a feature, not a bug. It's the point of the exercise. It's what happens when we are trying to express something we have not expressed before. That friction forces us to make the tools we need to understand and express it. Getting stuck is how we make meaning.

This is wonderful archival work. The stuckness now belongs to the ages.

There’s no grey area between the seven lethargies of sofa-stuckness and the ooh-shiny-rabbitholes.

Excited to share my latest publication, "Generative Aesthetics: On formal stuckness in AI verse." It's published in a special issue in the Journal of Cultural Analytics, expertly edited by Tess McNulty and Laura Chapot, on "Computation and Form, Reconsidered."

feeling adrift? have a hunch that two things connect but don’t know how? need a writing prompt to get out of your own stuckness? “what else happened that day?”

I have not drunk alcohol for just over 14 years. But stopping does not fix the emotions that drove abusing alcohol in the first place. I have never been part of a programme but I understand the cycle of shame, stuckness, desperation for absolution, & the unliveability of life.

I know a lot of guys who've gone through divorce and managed to NOT make themselves divorced or not for too long. It's a stuckness where your grudge against women "undergirds" your malice.

And as in all things, there by the grace of something go I.

The hardest part of inertia isn’t the undone task.

It’s the shame story that wraps itself around the stuckness.

That old voice whispering: you’re lazy, you’re failing, you should be able to.

Sometimes the work isn’t finishing the thing.

It’s staying with ourselves when we can’t.

Trump is stuck between the reality of his loss and his boundless narcissm.

Not disagreeing - this is consistent with what you say and the source of the stuckness.

unironically I think one reason for the perception of mainstream cultural "stuckness" is that anything with actual historical potential gets immediately disavowed for its subculture war connotations like this
Danganronpa's biggest problem was being liked by Tumblr queers so we all have to pretend it was worse than Satan because some children a decade ago were slightly too annoying about it (see also: Homestuck).

The people who dislike DR to such an extreme extent have never actually engaged with it lol.
Hundred Line is so unignorably amazing it has people finally admitting Danganronpa was always good. It did the unthinkable.

How about a transformation where the new outfit/accessories are apart of the TF. Like cosplaying Rouge the Bat and your feet turning into heels or having a maid dress sprout from your body? Lots of fun and weird shot potential and the extra layer of "stuckness" is really fun to me

Autistic Burnout often begins with years of ignoring “I can’t.”

I can’t keep doing this.

I can’t keep masking this.

I can’t keep surviving on panic.

Cool talk by @heuser.bsky.social on formal stuckness (regular rhyme and meter) of LLM poetry that doesn’t seem to reflect training data nor a specific historical period. “average of our aesthetic desire”

Was the remote too big for him to use, hence "stuckness"?...

Our team @oppforhealthlab.bsky.social is working on a related point. There might be a deeper sentiment here than just perceiving being material worse off. We are calling it "stuckness."

Report on Stuckness in America to come soon.
I think that as economists we should be a lot more concerned that everyone feels like they've got poorer when the data show they haven't. We certainly shouldn't just be assuming that the customers are wrong, rather than that we're no longer measuring things that are most relevant to wellbeing
